This poem is about the journey of life and the importance of masters, their teachings and meditation and prayer on that journey.

The Precious Port
by Harry Kottler
Stumbling and swaggering
Some sailors live their lives.
Away from home,
Through streets they roam
Forgetting kids and wives.
They drink and brawl and tell great lies.
They're comfortable at sea,
But when they're old,
If truth be told,
They don't know how to be.
These sailors live around us.
The sea's The Sea of Change.
But that sea cannot satisfy
The heart and soul and brain.
The Sea of Life Transcendent
Is more glorious by far.
On that sea roam.
It is our home.
There lives the sacred star.
The Star of Life Eternal
Lets the soul just be.
The Star of Life Eternal
Lets the soul be free.
The Star of Life Eternal
Is there on every street,
But can't be seen
By minds that flee
The duties that they meet.
Oh, dear wandering sailors,
Find the precious port.
There is a special tavern there
And a beauty you can court.
The port is the realm of masters.
Great souls teach sailors how to live.
They teach them to serve others' needs.
They give and give and give.
The tavern is meditation
And ever ardent prayer.
The beauty is the inner Self.
You'll find the star right there.
Become the kind of drunkard
Who never wears a frown.
Because he's free,
His wine is inner ecstasy,
And it never lets him down.
...........
With love and respect,
Harry and Helen
