Happy Mothers' Day to all mothers on Sulekha! Today is Mothers' Day in the United States, and this poem is meant for all great mothers and all women and young ladies who aspire to be great mothers.  It is especially meant for my dear wife, Helen, who is a great mom to our daughter, Emily.

A True Mother

A true mother scales the heights of love.

A true mother's always caring.

A true mother's looks embrace like hugs.

She always is preparing

To meet her offspring's every need,

To keep them warm and well fed,

To make them happy as can be,

To see that they are well-bred.

A true mother is a miracle.

A true mother is God's blessing.

A true mother is quite lyrical.

She clearly knows God's essence.

She knows that love's the only thing

That keeps this earth afloat.

She sings love songs

To weak and strong

And doesn't miss a note.

Ah, such a mother. Ah, such a mother.

Can anyone be better?

(Those who live with selfish needs

Remain forever fettered.)

Such a mother gives everything,

She gives her every breath.

Such a mother has golden wings,

And, of all, she is the best.
