I remember getting off the plane when I went to India. Around me, I saw some things which were less than uplifting, but inside me, I felt I was in a holy place.
India, a computer drawing by Harry Kottler
The Supreme of India
The Indian sun is very hot.
The Indian sun is what India's got.
Yet neath that sun, sages reached the top.
They reached the pinnacle of human life.
The Indian populous is large.
The Indian populous works very hard.
Yet midst that populous, the bards
And sages come to show the way.
The Indian poor suffer and sweat.
The Indian poor meager wages get.
Yet midst the poor, God has set
Souls with knowledge that's supreme.
The Indian economy is on the rise.
The Indian economy seeks comfort's prize.
Yet midst the economy, there are the wise
Who live content whether rich or poor.
The power of India is still alive.
The power of India is not its economic climb.
The power of India is the sublime
Which has been found by sages and saints.
The glory of India is in it past
The glory of India is the modern task
To take that past and today bask
In the glory of devotion and knowledge true.
The supreme of India are the blessed saints.
The supreme of India have no complaints.
They live midst all that India contains
And know they're living in God's own home.
